SEPTEMBER FASHION WEEK

7 Sep 2022

While the hair we create in salon is not defined by trends, we do look to them to keep your style fresh. Each season, members of our Art Team are  backstage working at LFW. While we’re at the forefront of trends we incorporate what is happening on the catwalk by blending inspiration with hair that works for you. Each time you visit us in the salon you receive the full HARE & BONE experience. We are committed to progress, through continuous education and development of our team, so we always produce contemporary, yet wearable hair designs.

So what will we be recommending this autumn/winter?

Waves are sticking around for another season so there’s a softness to hair for the season ahead. Embrace the natural texture of your hair and work with the wave. Bobs are big for the coming months and there are so many variations that can be tailored to work with your hair type and lifestyle. French, Italian, flicked, bottleneck, Botticelli and, of course, the 90s bob. Another 90s look from everyone’s most  sought-after hair icon is the shoulder kissing style seen on Jennifer Aniston. This is all about movement and bounce. Keeping with the 90s feel, Jennifer Lopez’s long length is fresh and high end. Long hair needs lots of care to look that luxurious and I recommend using Oribe Hair Alchemy Shampoo and Conditioner. It moisturises and restores from within, making hair feel hydrated and strong.

Last season the money piece was a popular trend for colour. This season it has evolved to be a little more extreme. Now colour placement has moved to underneath the hair or even stripes of highlights, which was first a massive hit with the Spice Girls and AllSaints in the mid 90s. This is the perfect trend to showcase where inspiration comes from and how in the salon we adapt it to be everyday looks for our clients. We have the skill and knowledge to create the two-toned look but also the expertise to customise it for you.

Moving into the 2000s, the red and copper tones rocked by Rihanna in 2k is very much back. This trend has resurfaced alongside others such as the Juicy Couture tracksuit. The first one to change it up was Kendal Jenner for Prada earlier this year and it’s progressed from there. Other celebrities are now following suit for new copper locks such as Phoebe Dynevor.

Happy HARE Days

18 Aug 2022

The British Hairdressing Awards is the creative pinnacle of our industry and something we take very seriously. And with huge excitement I can announce that Andrew Plester, our Artistic Team member has finalised for Men’s Hairdresser of the Year 2022! To finalise, Andrew had to submit a photographic collection of four images that were judged by a group of iconic and highly respected talent from the hairdressing world. He is now one of six finalists that will submit another four images to be showcased as a collection of 8 in the second judging. We’ll need to wait until the end of November to find out if Andrew win’s but until then we’re going to celebrate Andrew and his success.

‘I am delighted to finalise for Men’s Hairdresser of the Year. From day one it has been a dream of mine and I can’t believe it has actually happened, I hope so much to bring the award home to HARE & BONE.’ Andrew Plester

Hair Health

18 Aug 2022

When life is extra hot, hair is usually thrown in a topknot and left to its own devices. Unlike skincare, people often aren’t sure how to look after their hair in the sun. UV rays, dehydration, air con and travel can all impact on the health of your hair and can leave it feeling dry, or the humidity can intensify the frizz.

What can we do about it?

To eliminate the impact heat can have on hair you need to begin packing moisture into the hair before the sun arrives. This can be in the form of weekly hair masks, such as Oribe Masque for Beautiful Hair which has colour-protecting UV filters, or, adding on an intense moisture treatment when you’re in the salon. One that we highly recommend is the Renewal Remedies, also by Oribe. This is a much more intense treatment containing UV protection and can be made bespoke,  depending on your hair type.  However, if you’re keen to abolish the frizz completely then our Keratin Smoothing treatment, which seals the hair cuticle with a coating of protein to eliminate frizz and adds softness and shine, is your summer friend. It reduces the time it takes to blow-dry hair, or the need to blow-dry at all, and depending on hair type, can last three to five months, if the supporting home haircare products are used. It’s the ultimate treat for you hair.

On holiday, there are a few tricks you can do to prevent your hair becoming weak in the salt and chlorine water.

  1. Rinse your hair before and after swimming. The natural water will fill any porous aspects of the cuticle before salt or chlorine water get the chance.
  2. Invest in a UV spray for your hair and similar to skincare, apply regularly.
  3. Wear a hat.
  4. Reduce the use of heated appliances. This is where the Keratin Smoothing Treatment comes into play.

It is also important that you protect your colour while in extreme weather and especially if spending more time in the pool. You can do this by investing in Goldwell’s Dualsenses Sun Reflects UV Spray. It instantly protects hair from the influences of sun, pool and seawater and from colour fading due to UV rays. It prevents moisture loss and re-balances the moisture level. There has been a shift in booking colour appointments for when a client returns from holiday. This allows us to professionally treat colour which has either faded in the sun, or lightened if your hair is blonde. It might just take a toner to rejuvenate colour but by treating your hair with the same level of respect as your skincare regime, summer and holidays shouldn’t cause any damage, and your hair can continue to be manageable (and on trend) during this time.

When it comes to cutting hair, regular appointments encourage growth and good health. Booking in for a restyle or trim before your holiday is a good idea but equally once you return as this allows us to treat any damage to the ends. Please always remember though, prevention is better than cure. With this in mind, I highly recommend the Oribe Alchemy which builds hair from the inside out. It reinforces and strengthens fragile hair, hydrates strands and locks in moisture. If the scent of summer could be bottled as a haircare product, this would be it. The floral blend of daisy and honeysuckle extracts help to reveal hair’s supernatural strength.
