A Day in the Life of a Hair Stylist: Inside the World of Amelia Evans

15 Jun 2025

At HARE & BONE, creativity, connection and technical excellence define everything we do. Few can lead the way and inspire the team as much as Amelia Evans, our Art Director, Head of Education, and an award-winning hair stylist based at our Fitzrovia salon.

Her work spans precision cutting, colour concept creation, industry education, and client transformations. In this ‘day in the life of a hair stylist’ blog, we follow Amelia through her typical routine, offering a look at how experience, care and artistry come together in her world.

Starting the Day in the Life of a Hair Stylist

After a morning gym session and breakfast to fuel her morning, Amelia arrives at the salon around 9:45 am to prepare for the day ahead.

Organisation is essential. She checks her appointments, ensures all tools are clean and ready, and plans the flow of her day.

“I look over the day ahead and plan what I can,” she explains. “It doesn’t always go to plan, but I like to be prepared.”

Amelia’s day in the life of a hair stylist begins with intention and structure, a quiet moment before creativity takes the lead

Working with Clients and Supporting the Team

Amelia spends five days a week in the Fitzrovia salon, looking after a dedicated and long-standing client base.

“The most rewarding part of my job is making people feel great and building those connections. Some of my clients I’ve known for ten years. It’s always lovely to hear about their lives and catch up.”

Beyond the chair, Amelia plays a vital role in team culture. Whether it’s answering questions, offering advice or mentoring junior stylists, she’s always available to support her colleagues.

She typically wraps up around 7 or 8 pm, concluding a dynamic and creative day in the life of a hair stylist at one of Fitzrovia’s leading salons.

Education, Creative Direction and Industry Impact

When she’s not on the salon floor, Amelia is educating across the industry for Davines, sharing HARE & BONE’s ethos and advanced techniques through bespoke training courses.

She also plays a key role within Davine’s global education network, contributing to the brand’s mission of combining sustainability with cutting-edge hair innovation.

As Head of Education, she’s responsible for formatting our internal training programmes and creating the colour direction for HARE & BONE’s creative collections.

She embodies HARE & BONE’s Tech Trilogy ethos, a multi-disciplinary approach that values equal mastery in cutting, colouring and styling.

Amelia’s colour collection Harecore Happiness, inspired by 90s rave culture, was presented live in Chicago to over 1,000 colourists and featured in Creative HEAD magazine.

She has worked backstage at Fashion Week shows for brands including Versace and Tommy Hilfiger, and was a Colour Genius Awards 2024 finalist in three categories: Creative Colour Genius, Mindful Colour Genius and Afro Colour Genius.

As you can see in this example of a day in the life of a hair stylist, it’s a career that brings variety and creativity.

Trends and Transformation

Right now, Amelia is excited about the shift in client preferences.

“I love that everyone is being brave with their hair now, having more layers and cutting off a lot of length. While hair colour has gone more natural and understated for the time being, clients are looking to change their appearance with having shorter hair. Which is making me very happy.”
